Ever dreamt of having your polish apply smoothly and last as long as possible? I’ll show you how to do that in 5 easy steps!
Step 1 – Remove Any Old Polish Left On Your Nails.
When I’m looking to change up my nail color or remove old leftover polish I always go for a non-acetone remover to take it off. This is because it’s a gentler formula and it’s less drying than those containing acetone.
Step 2 – Time for Cuticles!
This step is about taking care of your cuticles. Having them neat and well kept is the key to a beautiful manicure. Begin by applying your favorite cuticle oil to your cuticles and then massage it into your skin and allow it to soak in for a minute. Then use a cuticle pusher to push back your cuticles for a neat appearance. You can find wooden and metal ones similar to this, but I personally prefer these rubber ones.
Step 3 – Shape All Your Nails To A Similar Length And Buff The Surface.
When shaping your nails, always remember to go in one direction for a smooth and clean shape. Sawing back and forth can cause splitting. I also like to use the buff and polish sides on a four-sided buffer block to smooth out the surface of my nails for even polish application. You only want to do this for a few seconds and once in a while so that your nails keep their strength and don’t become thin. Once you’re done the filing and buffing, it’s a good time to wash your hands to remove any leftover particles from your nails.
Step 4 – Time for Pampering!
Time for some serious pampering. My holy grail nail care product has to be burt’s bees lemon cuticle cream. I massage it into all of my cuticles and nails and it adds in so much moisture and you can visibly see the difference after giving it a few minutes to soak in. Don’t you hate it when you hit your nail off something and you’re left with one of these white marks? It drives me crazy waiting for it to grow out. Now is also a great time to use your favorite hand cream. Then give yourself some time to relax and allow those products to soak in.
Step 5 – Protect with A Base!
Step 5 is all about the base. A very important step to having your manicure l to protect them from being strained by colored polish. This is a ridge filling one which is why it’s a little milky looking. This, plus the buffing we did earlieast as long as possible is wiping your nails down your nails with polish remover to remove excess oils before applying the base coat. Then apply your favorite base coat over your nails, really helps your polish to go on very smoothly.
